The Nike Air Penny 2 black/royal colorway holds a special place in my heart...a symbol of missed opportunity. See...In 1997, I was actually able to just walk into Footlocker and purchase the newly released Nike Air Penny 2 white/atlantic blue colorway. I loved the Nike Air Penny 1...but there was something about this new Penny that didn't sit too well with me. Something wasn't right. After about a week of not wanting to wear them...I returned them to Footlocker and got a refund. That was that...the Nike Penny 2 was a flop compared to the Penny 1 in my opinion. A lot of other people must of thought the same cause the white/atlantic blues ended up on clearance. Then a couple of months later, Nike dropped the black/royal blue colorway...and I was floored!!! Damn...This shoe is hot as shit! I raced to the local spot to pick up a pair that weekend...but to my suprise, I wasn't the only one that liked the colorway. The black/royals were sold out in my size everywhere. I'm saying...them shits sold like a Jordan! Gone...AAAARGH!!!
Now the fall 2008 brings the retro of the Nike Air Penny 2, in black/royal blue. Finally I can own the colorway that eluded me some eleven plus years ago. Here are some sample pics of the shoe...done right in my opinion.
