10 Years?! Wow...

It's been 10 years since the passing of one of the greatest MC's in hip-hop's history, Christopher Rios aka Big Pun. His legacy continues on thru numerous mixtapes & such, but nothing can come close to the days when he carried Fat Joe's Terror Squad like Mike carried the Bulls. Pun's flow was remarkable. I mean...when he spat verses for about 40 seconds straight with no breathe in between, I was like DAMN?! And let's not forget how the ladies loved being crushed alot. lol
Who knows how great The Terror Squad could have been if their MVP was still here. To quote Cubin Link, "Pun wouldn't have never let Joe fuck this shit up!"

RIP BIG PUN. Gone but never forgotten.....

Bah...

This winter thing is starting to get on my nerves. Even thou the snowfall is beautiful, who wants to be stuck in the house for days at a time?

Weather advisory is reporting that 10 - 20 inches of more snow is on the way.
Aaaaaaargh!

NB Luv?

I remember when my homie Vic from Sneakfiend.com visited B'More a while back. He was baffled by the area's fascination with New Balance 498s. The 498 has taken the place of the Nike Air Force One as shoe of choice in Charm City. I can't even explain when or how it happened.

Then again, the how could be the 498's affordability (retail is only $80), surprising comfort, durability (unlike Nike's Air Max 1 which creases like crazy upon any wear) & endless supply of colorways. My daughter can't get enough of them & keeps asking for more pairs.
I'm old school so I swore that I'd never sell out. I would never bring myself to start wearing the hood's shoe.

I could blame this on the fact they were gifts, but that would sound like a lame ass excuse. Oh well...

The Sosiety...

My homie Paulo recently relocated from the DMV to the west coast (San Fran) with plans on making big moves. This is his new project...The Sosiety. Check the promo vid dropped by Paulo & his partner in crime Chase. It looks like they're trying to put dudes on to the new wave of style...aka let us be the trendsetters.

Pay To Cum...

Bad Brains hits us with a sneak peak at their upcoming documentary. The reknown punk band has influenced so many artist (the list is staggering) & recently crossed into streetwear/fashion with their numerous collaborations with brands such as Supreme & Vans. Yes, this film has been needed for some time & I'm glad their making it happen.

Still in it's post-preduction stages, stay tuned for the official release. I'm sure it's gonna be wicked!

Shadina...

My homie Ryan at A Baltimore Love Thing put me down with this songstress, straight from the Park Heights area of B'More.

Shadina....

After checking out her very insightful interview (with ABLT) & recent performance on BET's 106 & Park....I was blown away by sista's energy & raw talent. And mind you, I don't impress easy. She sings & dances like she been doing it for years. Plus the fact that she's definite eye candy doesn't hurt either. lol

Check for Shadina's debut single,"GOOD GIRLS" featuring CHUBB ROCK off her forthcoming CD "BORN 4 THIS." And for more info, hit her up on Myspace/Shadina1. I'm in need of a live performance & a kiss on the forehead now. Terrance....I'm jealous..

Far East Heat....

Converse Japan is doing big things. If you don't believe me, check these pics from their upcoming 2010 February releases. Converse Japan continues to offer up the Chuck Taylors, Jack Purcell & One Star in dope colorways & materials. But this release also feature some models you might not be familiar with such as the Marine-Sea Dot Hi & CV Street Mid.

My goodness those leather Purcells are amazing, especially the Eggplant colorway. Here's hoping my Japan connect doesn't let me down...

Finally...

I usually don't sleep on a lot of quality retro releases. But when Nike retroed the Air Max Griffey 1s in the OG Freshwater colorway last year...I figured I'd save a few dollars & wait until it went on sale to cop. Then came Easter holiday & POOF...them thangs sold faster than comdoms on Baltimore St. I couldn't believe i missed out on a shoe I always wanted to own. A couple months later, Nike retroed another OG colorway (Volt)....but if I couldn't get both the Freshwaters & Volts, I'd do without both. BAH...

You just gotta luv a good re-release, Freshwaters that is.
Thank you Nike. No sleeping this time....

FlashBack Vids...

Anybody that know's me personally, know's I love the 80s.

The movies, the TV shows, the style of dress, the swagger (and swagger wasn't even a word back then)...the 80s was known as the decade of excess, filled with over the top styles, big hair & bright colors. Hip-hop was born. Micheal Jordan was a star & the Showtime Lakers ran thru the NBA. Bill Cosby became a legend. Crockett & Tubbs were watched every week. Jason Vorhees & Freddy Krueger butchered many. I can go on forever reminiscing on my childhood years. But the most relevant thing that stuck with me was the 80s music. Classic groups & bands. Many dope one-hit wonders. I could listen to music from that decade all day, non stop. So i figured, why not post some of my favorite tracks...

This one always gets me smiling, cause It looked like these ladies were just having a blast, plus the groove was funky. Bananarama's Cruel Summer.

KickChick here!

And so is the snow! (roll eyes)

I guess It's to be expected, it is January. For a lot of ya'll, the snow means staying in the house & surfing the web. That's cool too but It's Saturday. I got a couple of errands that need tending to. Time to slip on the Polo Boots & tackle mother nature head on.

Until next time, follow me on twitter at DC_KICKCHICK

Oh yeah?!

EDC teases us with this preview of their collaboration between CLOT, Kazuki Kuraishi, and adidas Originals on a pair of Superstars. Dubbed “KzkLOT”, I'm anxiously awaiting more pics of the final product.

Knowing Edison Chen, Adidas might have a winner on it's hands. Stay tuned for more info & possibly a global drop....

Timeless Steez...

Rayban recently previewed their Spring line of sunglasses. What immediately caught my attention was the iconic Wayfarer & Clubmaster. Rayban's shades have been emphasizing "cool" for years. And these will surely be a hit for anyone wanting a timeless look.

I shouldn't have to tell anyone that the Black/Clear Wayfarer is an INSTANT COP.

Maybe It's Me...

...But I don't see what all the fuss is about. All these sneaker purist are up in arms over the recent Air Jordan 6 Varsity Red release.

Oh no, they used suede...Oh no, It's not infared...Oh no, There's no Nike Air on the back.

Get a damn life!!!

In my opinion, this shoe is awesome. I'm diggin' the suede materials much more than the paper-thin nubuck Jordan Brand has been using of late. Them joints crease like nobody's business. And I could of sworn MJ played for the Chicago Bulls...meaning Varsity Red would have matched their gear better than infared. Don't get me wrong, infared is still a hot colorway, but it was probably just used during the OG release because bright colors were in around that time period.

For all you nubuck lovers, here's a pic of the Varsity Red 6s alongside my Aqua 8s. Yes, the Aquas are made out of the nubuck you hold so dear. But I swear the Varsity Red 6s still look amazing to me regardless of it's different materials.

A dope shoe...is a dope shoe.
